The #usarnl team is really something else. Just back from Beirut helping there after the disaster, back to training in NL. I've wanted to photograph them for quite some time and @martinevers1 made it happen. I could not have been happier. Expect some photonspam the coming days ;)

Info: USAR stands for urban search and rescue. They are four teams and a command unit. The teams are made up of medics, dog handlers, engineers and search and rescue crew. You can find people from police, firebrigade, military and much more in their midst.

Extra: this was the first time EVER i heard someone say "medic" outside of a movie (you can spot him checking the dummy!). And even though it was a training, it was such a moment for me. These guys do this when the stakes are high. So. Much. Respect.

This is a good time to reflect. And for me this is looking back on good things and great people. @talltalescompany definitely fit that description. I wrote an entire blog about them (so will keep it semi short here). These two, and all the talented people they have around them, are a blessing to work with and I am equally grateful to call them friends.

Back when we had sunshine and no pandemic I photographed the hulpverlenersdag in Hoek van Holland organized by the epic @vanderveldenkim The guys from Smit BV were there and they are PRO divers for sure. With their help you could even take a little dive in their tank! Ofc the firebrigade, police, knrm and many more were there as well. It was a super fun day and I hope we can have many more like it.

It occured to me I never posted any cosplayers. So let's fix this! This is one of my favourite shoots with lovely @denzhy rocking her Akali KDA. I honestly know nothing about most cosplays. Which is cool cause I get to learn about a whole new world, where people go all out to get it right.
@denzhy is not only an amazing cosplayer but also just a wonderful human to work with and know.

Today we honor my amazing grandfather. My dad @coenzondervan wrote this about him:

Today I honor my dad. When the Netherlands capitulated to the Germans, he was in the army. He refused to be put to work in Germany, went into hiding and joined the resistance. He fought with a group of friends, at the risk of his own life, for your and my freedom.

Decades later, he was one of the first resistance fighters to receive the commemorative cross. Thank you for defending our freedom.

I was invited by @netherlands_maritime_tech to join their tour at @kooimanmarinegroup. This of course led to me immediately becoming the ultimate straggler because I found everything just so cool and interesting. IMO these guys can build just about anything.

A while back I was on 'De Hef' with the height res

A while back I was on 'De Hef' with the height rescue team. I've done a lot of (in my book) high locations with them.. but this one? It kinda got to me! All the 'floors' are grates. The stairs too. No real connection to the earth. These fellas were professionals as ever (the last photo is the face of a true pro) and saved their victim (a dummy) and made sure i didn't get stuck either ;)

Trying something here. Being a photographer you'd think I know what to post on my feed. I don't. But maybe it's about just beginning. This photo (along with some other unplanned images that came with the fire brigade shoots) gave me some inspiration for a future project. I'll get back on that around the end of autumn hopefully.

Finally the sun is hiding a bit. Spending time with Prins in this spot with no tourists but with grass and water and wind is so peaceful. Dogs have this amazing quality where they ground you into the present. And that really helps me with the anxiety/burnout brain.
Let's not pretend I'm getting out of here without any insects biting me btw.
